Magazine as a Source of Information

The Magazine came to live in early 1700s during the outbreak of the World War. During those times, it is used as a support for politics, government, criticisms and information that aims to be affirmed or contradicted either through the release of researches or study results. After gaining the freedom, various companies got the idea on starting a magazine publishing business that would evolve in different aspects of life. People started buying these magazines with the goal of keeping themselves updated with their environment and to expand their knowledge. That was successful.

Today, Magazine is probably the number one source of information readily available for everyone. Its readers range from kids to students and to executives. There are actually two types of Magazines. One of these is the consumer magazines that are widely available in the country. The other one is the business magazine that can be availed on a subscription basis. Both magazines usually come in a weekly, monthly, or quarterly release with up to date contents.

For a kid, reading magazines with graphical representations like comics is a good way to start learning. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the early years are a key period for the development of intelligence, personality and behavior of a child.

For students, magazines are good source of information when doing research for school. Since educational magazines have updated content, further reading of it could truly contribute well to their learning.

As for professionals or executives, being the captain of their own journey is really essential. To be constantly updated on workplace and business issues, reading business and other related magazines is important. It gives them not just ideas but awareness on the current issues that are important in their field.

Through the years, magazine has existed with the aim of giving the freshest and accurate information to its readers. Among the famous magazines in the United States include the BusinessWeek for business, American Girl for children, Drovers for agriculture, Sports Illustrated for sports, Cook's for cooking and recipes, American Baby for parenting, Liberty for politics, Playboy for pornography, Adventist Review for religion, National Geographic for science, WikiMusicGuide for Music Lifestyle and many more.

Reading is indeed, a good way of expanding our knowledge and awareness. There are several reading materials that have great potentials of contributing to our craving mind and magazine is one of them. Choosing our point of interest is definitely endless with magazines.

Advertising in Magazines

In the realm of the business world today, more and more businesses are seeking for substantial mileage of the product or service they are engaged into. And one of the great and effective ways that most people can think of, is advertising through something that is being circulated like the “magazine”. It serves as a means of transportation for many companies to be known.

Apart from the million readers of different magazine publications being circulated each year, it is clearly seen that magazine companies earn through the revenues received for pennies worth of readership. However, today, magazine companies are slowly shifting on generating more revenues through advertisements. To most magazine publishers, they believed that an important factor of a publication’s success nowadays is generated from advertisements. It then becomes the parameter on how much people believed on the magazines’ credibility.

There are two important things that an advertiser needs to consider before making a deal. First, the magazine must be in the right category. Secondly, the magazine has the right target readers.

Advertising comes in various media such as television, billboards, newspapers, and radios, etc. And because these advertising mediums offer different level of exposure, they also differ in prices. Television is one of the most influential and thus, the most expensive medium that can be used in promoting a product and/or services.

However, if the budget is small, advertising in magazine could be an ideal alternative to other costly advertising medium. Magazines are readily available and much cheaper than television. It also offers visual but still representation of your product and/or services; thus, magazine could also generate more audiences as well as numbers of prospective buyers.

According to Search Your Love (SYL) Business Community, “Magazine plays the role of an advice-giver because it turns the ad into a piece of advice, a recommendation, given by the magazine and, consequently, it is trusted by the readers.” The magazine, if properly used as an advertising tool could truly provide tremendous benefits.

The magazine advertising is glamorous and instills a strong sense of visual representation. It creates a specific image for the company, thus messing up with it is not a good cliché to start. Its cost is high and so its quality, otherwise it couldn’t build trust and funds might be wasted.

Weblogs

Weblog, or blog for short. What is it? Why do people love to blog? What can blogs give you? For a newbie on the universal jargon of internet usage, this might compel you. But simply put, a blog is an online journal. Somewhere you can type in your rants and raves, news, upload videos, pictures and music. A typical blog would include text and images, but if you want to take it to the next level, you can customize it to your own liking. You can also include links to your favorite sites, and feature stories that you want the whole world to read on.

To tell you quite frankly, I really love to blog. At first, I was a bit hesitant to join in the millions of bloggers who I thought was just doing it because it was a fad. I was wrong. The whole phenomenon spread like wildfire when it was first introduced on the internet in 1994. But it wasn’t until Xanga was launched in 1996 that people started to notice the fun of blogging. Xanga in 1996 had only 100 users then. But now, you can count more than 50,000 people which are already members of Xanga. Of course it was a slow start, but the word-of-mouth about this site paid off. And it paved the way for other blogging sites to emerge from the background.

Nowadays, I noticed that blogs are skilfully edited and multifaceted. I see many members, not only in Xanga but other blog sites tweaking and making their weblog better than the rest. I enjoy reading other peoples’ lives but I do also enjoy other more important blogs focusing on news, politics, health and many others. These sites give you informative stories and helpful guides, depending which blog you are interested in.

There are different kinds of blog. There’s the vlog, which contains purely videos and minimal text. The one which is full of links from other sites is called the linklog and the other one filled with pictures is referred to as the photoblog. Blogs can also be categorized by which type of communication tool is used to compose it. A blog from a mobile phone or PDA is called a moblog. Blogs can also be distinguished through its genre. Say a political blog is well, you guessed it; all about politics. Travel blogs are also included in this genre. Blogs can also contain legal entities for publishers; and can be either for public or private browsing as well. Blogs in the corporate world are mainly used to transact and display their businesses. Therefore, other invertors can view their company much easier all around the world.

Now you’re asking - how can you make your own weblog? It’s as easy as eating a pie! First, establish a site you want to put your blog in. Then choose and do not forget your username and password for your blog and then you’re all set! You can upload pictures, link pictures; add music, link music and so much more! You might end up like me, a cynical, curious person now transformed into a blogger-crazy gal! You will enjoy it, I assure you.
